WHAT IS JUDO?

Judo was created in Japan in 1882 by Dr. Jigoro Kano.

Judo is one of the first modern martial arts to emerge from traditional JuJutsu. Judo is a very effective system of self defense that has evolved into a  sport for all ages.

It is considered one of the safest contact sports for children and adults.

It's most prominent feature is it's competitive element, the object of which is to throw one's opponent to the ground, immobilize one's opponent with a grappling maneuver, or force one's opponent to submit.
There is only one recognized form of Judo in the world which is governed by the international Judo Federation (IJF). With 183 member nations, Judo is the largest international sports organization in the world and the first martial art to be part of the Olympic Games. Judo is the second most practiced sport in the world with over 8 million registered athletes, second only to soccer.
